10 Great Anime Movies for Sakuga Fans

All of these are on my list, but thank you for potentially giving me a list as to which ones I should watch first/in what order when I finally start seeing more anime non-serial/standalone films. I’ll probably do Redline first but we’ll see.

Great article fam!

Writing about sakuga in top tier anime movies is a little bit different than writing about it in TV series. Due to the deadlines and nature of a weekly TV series, they are generally full of stark highs and lows, making it really easy to pick out the best stuff. Movies, on the other hand, with their more dedicated staff, longer timeline, and more reasonable budgets, are usually much more visually consistent, making that a little harder sometimes. Fluidity can no longer really be the top criteria because if it was, you would just have a 20 way tie for first place. And what about great looking movies that aren’t consistent? Things like The Sacred Star of Milos? It has incrediblyhighhighs that are definitely worthy of note, but is also much more like a TV series, in that it has plenty of moments where you’re just staring at a panning still. So should that…

Introduction.

Hi there! The name’s Barty! This is a long dormant blog (until today) dedicated to posting my personal analyses, musings, theories, speculations, ideas, inspirations, headcanons, opinions, possible reviews, and conversation-starters regarding my favorite works of media, primarily of a Japanese and/or cinematic origin. I will also frequently reblog posts from other blogs that I greatly enjoyed reading with my response to them attached, as I have been doing for some time now.

The 2016 Yuri Anime Awards Results

PapiCona should’ve won, but I guess more people watched Izetta than Flip Flappers. Oh well, I like both ships, so I’m not going to complain too much.

For as much as I love Yohane, Riko and Mari are still my favorites above her, so I’m glad they won. 😛

The Yuri Nation

The 2016 Yuri Anime Awards

Giving it all to Flip Flappers. And making me choose between Izetta and Yohane. Wow man, that fucking hurts. I don’t know if I can vote for that one.

The Yuri Nation

tohru-smitten A sneak peek at who will be part of the 2017 awards.

WARNING! The following award ceremony will contain massive spoilers for many anime and games that aired/were localized in 2016

It’s that time again Nation. Well, it would have been sooner were it not for other stuff that took a lot of my time. In any case let us finally drink in the magical goodness that is the gift of yuri. As usual let us give a big round of applause to all the ladies who gave their all in showing the world how beautiful love between two or more women can be in 2016. This year I will try something a bit different with the “Best Moment” category. Since we’ve had A LOT of confessions it will be changed to the “Best Confession”. There will also be some other bonus categories. Of course the finals of the 2016…

Sailor Moon Crystal Sequel Announced

You’ll get one chapter/episode of Haruka, Michiru and Setsuna raising Hotaru as their own (so Outers lesbian family basically), but otherwise, this one’s probably gonna be pretty dry for yuri content. And while I don’t dislike Helios (I quite enjoyed him in SuperS, and SuperS overall which is an extremely unpopular opinion but I don’t give a fuck), Takeuchi isn’t a fan of how she drew him in the original manga. So I may dislike his manga counterpart when I finally see him animated (because I have no intention of going back to the Sailor Moon manga myself anytime soon).

However, if I’m not mistaken, the Dream arc does have a scene that’s…very easy to be seen as yuri. I would rather not spoil what that is, but it has something to do specifically with a promise she made to Princess Serenity/Usagi.

But yeah other than that, you’ll have to wait for StarS in order to see more yuri, I think.

Sailor Moon 25th Anniversary.jpg

The post title says it all. In celebration of the Sailor Moon franchise’s 25h anniversary a sequel to Sailor Moon Crystal had been announced. This announcement comes as no surprise. Thing is the sites I saw reported the news as a “sequel” not the “4th season” of the Sailor Moon Crystal anime. While it’s highly likely that the sequel will in fact be the 4th season of SMC I too will report it as a sequel just in case it ends up being a movie trilogy or something like that. More details when they become available.

As far as the upcoming arc goes I heard some slightly unfavorable things regarding an adorable couple but hopefully with the direction the reboot has taken in the third season things will proceed favorably for the Yuri Nation.

The 2016 Yuritopia Classic Round 1

I felt bad about voting for couples for shows I haven’t seen/finished, but I did it anyway. I mostly chose my preferred couple based on aesthetic, really.

The Yuri Nation

Sorry for being late with the tournament. Stuff to do in real life and not being able to finish as many shows as I wanted before the end of 2016 stopped this year’s tournament from starting sooner. Anyway here we are so let’s go over the rules again and then bring up what will be different this time around.

Voting will end January 20th, 2017.

What’s In A Name – Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru

Finally found this article after what feels like years of having searched for it. An excellent and insightful write-up. I was particularly intrigued by Togo and Sonoko’s namesakes, given their position in Japanese history.

I was wondering if you were up to date on NoWaYu, and could tell me about the significance of the first generation Heroes’ naming conventions, specifically Wakaba’s. I want to know if there are more connections between her and Count Nogi than there are between him and her descendant.

Anyway, considering that its been over a year and a half since this article’s comment feed has been active, I can’t say I really expect an answer back but its the thought that counts.

Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero is a story notable for several reasons, one of them being its portrayal of a semi-theocratic society. We are shown hints of the setting’s god-tree religion affecting the education system and government, and obviously religious undertones would make into the everyday lives of ordinary households and leave a mark on the naming patterns of children. In fact, every character in the show bears some mark of this religious influence.

Starting from the Washio generation:

Tougou Mimori’s name means simply “beautiful forest”.

Minowa Gin’s name means “silver”, which is formed with the “metal” and “root” radicals. The “root” reference probably doubles as an indication of Gin’s role in the group as the one keeping the other two safe.

Nogi Sonoko’s name refers to a “garden”, which is most understandable if you imagine Japan’s extensive shrine and temple gardens. As a sacred space, the gardens create a…
