A Tale of Two Blondes – Usagi and Minako of Sailor Moon

simpleek

Sailor Moon has been my favorite manga and anime for as long as I can remember. Despite the flaws the main heroine Usagi Tsukino has, she does have other qualities a girl can admire. My next favorite character in the Sailor Moon series is Minako Aino, also known as Sailor Venus. Like the Greek goddess she is named after, Mina is a beautiful and confident sailor scout. Put these two together side-by-side, and you have two blonde girls who are similar in appearance and demeanor.

Sailor Moon Crystal episode 33: Buried Sorrow

Actually don’t have much to say about this week’s episode of Crystal tbh. It was good, much better than last week’s for sure.

Cyborg! Hotaru though sheesh. Can’t believe that’s a thing but well, Naoko did some drugs back in the day. Sometimes it had an effect on her writing, sometimes it didn’t. And God why are the Outers acting so ridiculous like “Oh we’re trying to protect you so stay out of our way!” like come on guys, really? Okay the reality is that I do know why they’re being like this, but it always annoyed me in either incarnation. So much so that I have never and won’t feel sympathy for when they scrape with death and Usagi comes in saving their asses, showing them what fools they were for refusing her help when in such a crisis situation such as Infinity arc’s, friendship and teamwork is exactly what everyone’s favorite aloof and cynical loner lesbians need lol.

Cyprine and Pithiol (sp?) made things interesting with the Inners and Outers fighting against one another, and actually survived to the end of this episode. Thank God. That was a nice change of pace.

And of course we have to wait until next week to see Super Sailor Moon. It’ll be well worth it surely.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 32: Fast Forward Times 2

Well, there’s a lot of good in this episode, and then there’s a lot of why is everything so damn serious (don’t answer that because I already know why) and why are the Senshi being so useless/angsty and who hit the fast forward button at the sixteen minute mark.

The pacing of this episode was honestly…not the best, not the worst. I can’t exactly attack it in its entirety since thanks to Hulu flaking out on me I didn’t watch it in real time. But I’ll say everything was going fine until about sixteen minutes in. That’s when things started to speed up, and way too fast for my liking.

A LOT happened in this episode, and I really don’t think it would have been so terrible if they slowed down a little bit or just got everything to be evenly paced for once.

I really wasn’t pleased with how the final battle went down, it was way too fast paced and Tellu wiped the floor with them. I’m used to seeing the Senshi being weak at times and that’s fine, and I liked seeing all of their attacks, but the fact that they didn’t do anything makes me just feel like, Jesus why bother.

The best parts of this episode were Chibiusa interacting with her classmates and deciding to give the Grail replica to Hotaru, Chibitaru date, Usagi’s introspection on Hotaru, Mako and Mina hanging out (I really never considered them as a ship yet they do have a lot of screentime together in the 90s anime especially with their petty rivalries, I’m just more of a fan of MakoAmi. But wow, they are really quite cute together) and of course, PLUTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤

Oh man do you seriously still think Kaolinite is possessing Hotaru? Daaaaaaaamn you’re gonna be in for a BIG surprise soon hahaha.

Other than that, I honestly won’t say this episode was a disappointment, but it wasn’t the best it could’ve been. I’m still looking forward to next week’s, however.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 31: Excellence Returns

The sooner I can get used to the fact that this is a different continuity than what I’m used to watching (90s show, just started Stars) the better. Because that’s just how it is. I wish Rei had more of a presence in this version, and I still can’t get used to her design.

Well, Haruka was a rock star this episode as always, really. I liked her interactions with Usagi the most. Clearly she cares deeply about her but keeps her distance regardless. Remind you of anyone hah hah anyway.

I’m glad that Mamoru and her got over that misunderstanding pretty quickly, no thanks to Chibiusa’s help. The Grail is so pretty, and it definitely doesn’t have any wicked intentions behind it oh no.

Viluy was nice to see again even if it was only for a short while, I forgot how pretty she was.

I would say Ami was the real star of this episode did she not end up trapped and having to be bailed out by Mars and Jupiter. That was a little annoying to me. But whatever. I’m kinda glad that Usagi didn’t have to rely on her magic this time though, its a nice change of pace.

Haruka and Michiru’s transformations were redrawn from the 90s and look fabulous, only thing missing is their godly leitmotif. ;_;

Seeing Motoki and Reika again was a nice surprise, I’ve always been particularly fond of them (especially since the last time I saw them was the horseback riding episode of SuperS which was soooooo good but the feels man).

Pluto/Setsuna showing up at the end though❤

New Moon is being sung by a different voice(s) this time, its not Etsuko Yakushimaru anymore. I’ll have to find out who sang it but I like this version quite a bit.

The new ED…ehhh…you want to talk about something that doesn’t really fit this arc this is it. I love Chibiusa, I love Misato Fukuen but this new ED and the visuals that accompany it doesn’t do anything for me. Oh well. It might be better if I knew what the lyrics meant.

Looking forward to next week for more Chibitaru playdates, that bitch Telulu and of course the Outer I’ve been waiting for the most other than Saturn, PLUTO/SETSUNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<3

Anyway this episode was as good as always and they’ve been doing a great job, but it didn’t blow me away like the first two and the last one did. I shouldn’t really expect every episode to though, so its fine. They’re still delivering like they’re supposed to.

Even more HaruMichi “FABULOUSNESS” and a personal treat near the end.
