TamaYuki a qt.
HOLY SHITSURAKUEN ON TOAST. DAT ENDING. WHOA. JUST WHOA. THEY WENT THE MOTHERFUCKING UTENA ROUTE. I CAN’T EVEN THOUGH.
I really love how things were wrapped up here. Mayu gets to die peacefully, knowing someone cared about her. Ulith gets her comeuppance. All of the LRIGs became human. Yuki didn’t die. The white room was destroyed. Ruko’s wish was granted. And the building didn’t collapse.
But even with all of that, Tama and Yuki have still disappeared. And Ru has to find her beloved LRIGs. But she’s content with searching for them, because she knows now that there is beautiful, hopeful white snow that can fall during a bright summer day. She knows now that this fate is her selection, and she does not have to give up anything in return for her sacrifice. Being separated from Tama and Yuki, even for just a little while. That’s something she can live with. But she knows that she’ll find them someday. And that’s all that matters
“And someday, we’ll shine, together.”
I now proclaim Selector Infected-Spread WIXOSS as my #1 favorite anime TV series of 2014. Its overall score is a solid 9.3/10. With that designation, it has now taken over Kannazuki no Miko’s spot at #10 on my Top 20 Favorite Anime of All Time List. It is only narrowly outranked by Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and Rei.
This series is terribly underrated. And while it began as simply “Madoka Magica meets Black Rock Shooter and Yu Gi Oh”, it has become oh so much more. At first I became addicted, then I completely fell in love with it. And the second season pleased me much more than I ever thought was possible.
I would highly recommend this wonderful series to anime fans who love magical girls, yuri, psychological thriller, existentialism and card games. I believe that this is the new TCG sensation of my generation. I sincerely hope that it is because I would play the fuck out of it.
I’ll miss you WIXOSS. Hope for more of those Bluray specials and the manga spinoffs too. Maybe a movie/OVA (MOAR YURI OMFG).
Yuki x Ruko x Tama FTW!
Yeah Spread was definitely better than Infected. In all honesty, this season was a MASTERPIECE. It literally did everything right IMHO. The characters, the relationships/yuri, the animation, the music, the pacing, the twists, the themes HOLY SHIT. I cannot find a single flaw in its execution (except maybe in how I was a little annoyed with Chiyori at first and THEN I WAS CRYING FOR HER AND ELDORA OMFG WOW MARI OKADA YOU FUCKING BITCH), although I will admit it had A LOT of exposition. That didn’t totally bother me though because the characters were fleshed out amazingly.
I can’t even tell you who my favorite is, but Iona/Yuki is very deserving of her title as Homura 2.0.
I’m kind of addicted to the OP tbh. And the ED is Cyua again…so I have to love it.
DAT ENDING THOUGH. I CANNOT EVEN. IT WAS LIKE WATCHING UTENA’S ENDING ALL OVER AGAIN. HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHITSURAKUEN. GODDAMMIT JC STAFF.
Ahem. I need to calm down. Yeah this show just made my Top 10. Seriously so underrated. I loved the HELL out of it. Definitely the best anime of 2014 for me, no question about it. And yeah I’ve yet to see all the others I started to their completion, LOL.
Sorry I gotta calm down. But Yuki is perfect. So is Ruko. Even Tama too. And seeing Mayu die like that while knowing that someone cared about her…gaaaahhhh its all so good. ❤
Warning! It is highly recommended to watch the first half of the show as the second half continues immediately after S1’s conclusion. Despite the first episode giving a short recap and this review not really spoiling much it is still recommended to watch the first season before continuing with S2. This is Selector Spread WIXOSS.
Here’s the S1 review:

I remember how one night I finally caved into watching this and I ended up finishing it by noon the next day. I had my doubts of course, but when I was done and even while I was watching, I was absolutely addicted. And just WOW. I LOVED it SO MUCH.
I mean, yeah it was like Madoka at first, but then it did some things different? And did that bother me? No, not at all. Because even though Madoka’s my favorite thing in the world, that doesn’t mean I’m not open to watching something that may or may not be better even if it doesn’t take her throne as my favorite anime in existence. Plus I wasn’t a fan of cardgame anime and didn’t really grow up on Yu Gi Oh, so tbh I didn’t really know what to expect.
But no I was fucking hooked by episode 3 or 4. It was just THAT GOOD. And I can’t be the only one who felt more of a Black Rock Shooter vibe to it than anything else. Even shared some similarities to Utena (thematically speaking, its a completely different story with completely different characters and the fact that JC Staff animated/produced both is entirely a coincidence).
I think my favorites would have to be Hitoe and Iona. Although toward the very end, I really fell in love with Hanayo too. Goddammit dem Ayako Kawasumi feels. ;-;
I also love the music and while the OP isn’t that great, the ED is pretty something. I mean, it’s Cyua, the woman who sang Blumenkranz. I can’t NOT love it.
Also, when that season finale came…oh boy…I thought I was going to die waiting for the next season. I became so addicted. But I’m truly glad I picked up this show. It was just really awesome. And I ship IonaRukoTama so HARD.
Easily the best anime of 2014. No contest. Can’t wait to see what you’ve written about season 2.
Let me start this one by avoiding sugarcoating things. Viewers who dislike angst filled storylines should not bother picking this one up. The same goes for the “It’s a Madoka and Yu-Gi-Oh ripoff” crowd. If readers do not have an issue with either of these two statements, read on as we take a look at the first season of the “WIXOSS Story”, Selector Infected WIXOSS.

Love this movie.

Something strange happened so I’m uploading the trailer again.
What I was trying to say before WordPress started acting like crap all of a sudden, this trailer shows viewers what the animation quality will be like. It features girls holding hands and confessing their love for one another, sexy transformations and vintage Ikuhara staircases.
-Ginko: I’ve found you, Kureha Tsubaki. Delicious… You smell like a feast. I’ll teach you my skill. Roar roar.
-Ruru: All right! Ruru’s going to do her best and eat up a lot of girls!
-Sumika: I’m in love with you, Kureha. I love you so much.
-Text: A legend that revolves around lovers who have been separated from each other. Not broken by the transparent storm, they will be found.
-Girl: You don’t understand! And you don’t understand anything about me and Sumika! So don’t talk like you do!
-Mitsuko: Now, get away…
